Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

Following great success in creating partnerships between deaf adults and hearing dogs, a pioneering project to offer this service to deaf children began in 2008. As well as alerting a deaf child to various sounds, a hearing dog can benefit a child’s confidence, self-esteem, self image and social interaction. Hearing dogs are highly trained and in great demand. Applicants must meet strict selection criteria.

The Ear Foundation- Equipment loans

The Ear Foundation offers loans of Radio Aids including Comfort Audio and the Phonak Roger System which you can try at home or school giving you and your child the time and confidence to ensure the equipment is right for you. You will be offered a one to one consultation at The Ear Foundation in Nottingham with our Audiologist who will spend time finding out more about your child’s individual needs as well as those of the wider family. Various technology options will be discussed and you will also have the opportunity to ask questions. Our consultation appointments are completely impartial and focussed on finding an effective solution to your child’s hearing needs.
We can also offer advice on other Assistive Listening Device’s as well as information on potential sources of funding for this equipment.
We ask for £10 for an initial appointment and an additional £10 for the loan of any equipment.
In cases where equipment has to be posted out, the cost of this must be covered by the individual wishing to loan the equipment and systems must always be posted back to us via a tracked postal service due to the value of the technology. The exact value of the equipment will be outlined in initial paperwork, this amount must be insured when posting back.
